This paper proposed a heterogeneous multi-chain concept in Power Efficient Gathering in Sensor Information System (HMCPEGASIS) to enhance the network lifetime and stability of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The existing PEGASIS use the single-chain approach for data transmission, which causes a delay in data delivery and hence, consume more battery energy. Later the multi-chain concept used in MCPEGASIS for enhancing the network lifetime. But in this paper, our main focus is on heterogeneous multi-chain approach. We assume proportion of 20% nodes among normal nodes as advanced nodes and the battery energy of advanced nodes are more than the normal nodes. The concept of multi-chains is used for data transmission instead of a single-chain. The base station (BS) is located at two different positions i.e., (25 m, 50 m) and (75 m, 50 m) for study the mobility impact on the network performance. In order to verify our simulations result we compare the performance parameters like energy consumption and network lifetime with the existing PEGASIS and MCPEGASIS by using MATLAB. Simulation result shows that proposed HMCPEGASIS routing protocol can operate for longer time and having less energy consumption for data transmission.
