Abstract

Turbidity has intense effect on radiation transmission in water. Limited work has been done till now to understand the radiation transmission in turbid water. Only one model is available to describe the phenomenon, the Wang and Yagoobi [26] model. The model has restriction of turbidity range. The present work has explored the aspect using a sensitive net radiation meter device and standard turbidity created by hexaine solution. The use of standard turbidity makes the results reproducible. This is the first attempt to understand the radiation transmission in standard turbidity solution using a sensitive radiation meter, over a broad range of turbidity. The results have direct application in thermal performance analysis and design of salt gradient solar ponds.
