Abstract

Copper nanoparticles find a variety of applications in almost every developing sector like medicine, agriculture and engineering, etc. This biotechnology combines the biological principles of both physical and chemical properties and produces nano-sized particles that have peculiar functions. Cytotoxicity is the quality of being toxic to cells. The present study aimed to analyse the cytotoxicity of copper nanoparticles that are biosynthesized using dried ginger. Copper nanoparticles were synthesized by green approach using dried ginger and were characterized by UV- Vis spectroscopy. The dried ginger mediated copper nanoparticles were subjected to cytotoxic tests for different concentrations by brine shrimp lethality assay. The results indicated that the copper nanoparticles synthesized from dried ginger showed reduced toxicity at lower concentrations. Thus, various nano-formulations of dried ginger mediated copper nanoparticles can be developed at optimal concentrations for therapeutics that are safe and economical.
