Abstract

Phosphorus (P) is an important nutrient for crops. The roles of P in legume development are root proliferation, increase of nodulation number and weight, and stimulation of nodule activity Therefore, the intention of reviewing the work done on evaluation of P effects on selected soybean varieties based on the seed oil content (SOC) and the seed protein content (SPC) and to assess the physiological responses associated with changes in shoot P-utilization efficiency (SPUE). Reviews are also collected to see the impact of phosphorus levels on growth and productivity of soybean in calcareous vertisols. The growth and yield attributes such as seed yield and dry matter yield of soybean was not affected significantly by different levels of applied P in calcareous vertisols. Application of phosphorus showed significant effect on yield and yield attributes i.e. plant height, number of primary branch plant-1, number of leaves plant-1, stover yield increased significantly up to 60 kg P ha-1.
