Abstract

The agglutination property of the cell free haemolymph (serum) of Penaeus monodon against vertebrate RBC's, Vibrio cell and yeast cell was evaluated and the haemoagglutination tier was determined. The serum agglutinated the RBC's of all vertebrate sources suggesting the presence of both O-acetylneuraminic acid specific and N-acetylneuraminic acid specific agglutinin. The bacteria agglutination by the serum revealed its interaction with the lipo-polysaccharide sugar component of the Pibros. The yeast cell agglutination by serum revealed not only its binding capacity but also the opsonization function, as revealed from literature.
