Abstract

E-commerce refers to any commercial transaction that involves the transmission of data over the internet. Electronic commerce has grown considerably in recent years. As more firms move elements of their operations to the Internet, the lines between "conventional" and "electronic" trade will blur in the future. The Internet has provided the consumer a potent instrument for searching and buying goods and services. Baazee.com was India's first business-to-consumer e-commerce platform. In 2004, eBay purchased Baazee.com Inc. and its subsidiary Baazee.com India Pvt Ltd for $50 million. As internet availability grew in India, new players such as Flipkart.com, Snapdeal.com, and Amazon.in entered the E-commerce industry. Currently, several E-commerce businesses specialise on a specific product area, such as lenskart.com, which sells spectacles. Businesses are also looking into sectors where customers are unwilling to buy items and services from traditional brick-and-mortar stores, such as cilory.com, which sells a wide variety of lingerie. The expansion of E-commerce in India has been aided by the popularity of smartphones. The rise in popularity of E-commerce has brought with it a slew of concerns for consumers, including the leakage of personal information, undesired payments, and the theft of credit and debit card information. The article investigates the current legal protections provided in the field of e-commerce. The study also looks into areas where there are gaps that need to be filled.
