Abstract

Brief literature data on the properties of light beams with a fractal structure (diffractals) are given. New information about the propagation of diffractals in free space was also discovered. Particular attention was paid to the properties of vortex diffractals. The research based on two-dimensional Weierstrass functions and specific structures of Gaussian beams was carried out. The performed analysis indicated a high information capacity of vortex diffractals and explained their resistance to the turbulence in the propagation medium. It was found that the morphology of their transverse amplitude-phase distribution remains unchanged during the propagation. The obtained results will be useful in the development of optical information systems based on fractal vortex beams.
